When you choose a purebred pet, you aren’t just looking for a cat or a dog — you are looking for a specific temperament, predictable behavior, and a distinct appearance. LAPA takes full responsibility for verifying documents and breeder reputations, ensuring your choice is 100% reliable and transparent.
A breed is a specific group of domestic animals having homogeneous appearance (phenotype), homogeneous behavior, and other characteristics that distinguish it from other organisms of the same species. A pedigree is more than just looks; it is the “inner world” and genetic heritage of your future companion.
Buying a pet without official registration papers (Metric or Pedigree) is a gamble. You risk not only a different appearance as the pet grows but also hidden issues, such as unpredictable temperament or hereditary health conditions. When you buy a luxury watch, you expect an original, not a “high-quality” knock-off. Choosing a life companion is no different. LAPA offers more than just a “similar look” — we provide a genetic code verified by international organizations.
How LAPA Guarantees Breed Integrity
Our 3-Step Verification Shield
1. Legal Breeder Verification
Every breeder on LAPA is officially registered with major international organizations (WCF, TICA, FIFe, FCI, etc.). Their pets have pedigrees documenting 4-5 generations of ancestors. We are not just a classifieds site. Every kennel undergoes a strict verification process, where we check:
- International registration and licensing;
- Reputation within the professional community;
- Verified buyer reviews and global delivery history.
2. Document Authenticity Audit
Unfortunately, even registered breeders can sometimes lack transparency. Some may try to sell kittens or puppies without registration because the parents didn’t pass health or breed standards evaluations. They might offer “in-house” papers or just a veterinary passport.
A Veterinary Passport is only a medical record; it is NOT proof of breed. Anyone can buy a passport and write any breed name inside. Only a Pedigree confirms authenticity.
LAPA strictly prohibits such practices. For every sale through lapa.shop, a formal registration document (Metric or Pedigree) is mandatory. We verify these documents with the issuing clubs to ensure they are legitimate.
3. Expert Quality Assessment
Every partner breeder on LAPA undergoes an interview with our feline or canine experts. A professional breeder must have specialized education and a commitment to the breed’s welfare. Not all legal breeders meet our high standards for quality and health; we filter out those who do not prioritize the long-term well-being of the animal. Still thinking about identifying a breed “by eye” from a random online ad?
According to FCI statistics, a vast majority of online pet ads are posted by scammers or unethical “puppy mills.”
Because a breed is a combination of both visible traits and invisible genetics, it cannot be determined by a photo alone! A pet sold without papers is a potential risk for behavioral issues and hereditary diseases. Not to mention, they may grow up to look nothing like you imagined.
For example: the folded ears of a Scottish Fold, the size of a Maine Coon, or the hairlessness of a Sphynx are easy to see. But many other traits are subtle. Without a pedigree, you could be buying a mix-breed (mutt) at the price of a champion.
Take our challenge. Can you guess the breeds below? The answers are on the back of each card.
British Shorthair
Longhair variety. Powerful bone structure and dense, thick coat.
British Shorthair
Characteristic open gaze and rounded ears. 100% British pedigree.
Scottish Straight
Scottish straight-eared cat. Lighter body type than the British, with a different temperament.
Neva Masquerade
This color-point pattern and blue eyes are the signature hallmarks of the breed.
Highland Straight
Longhair version of the Scottish Straight. Incredible “fur coat” and a point pattern!
Highland Straight
Long hair makes them appear visually larger and very fluffy.
Siberian
A native breed with powerful immunity and a strong, muscular body.
Scottish Straight
Often confused with British cats, but straights have a sweeter facial expression.
Highland Straight
Luxurious long hair and a calm, gentle temperament.
Identifying these breeds by eye without documents is nearly impossible even for experts. When buying from an unethical breeder without papers, you cannot expect the pet to have all the breed’s traits. Temperament issues are common: “Scottish” cats from mills can be aggressive, and “Labradors” can be overly fearful. Authentic breeding ensures the character you expect.
